Valentine’s Cozy Roundup – Day 6

It’s the final day of my Valentine’s cozy roundup.  Tomorrow is the big day:  Valentine’s Day!

The pattern for this cozy was shared with me by my friend Liz over at A Little Crochet by Liz.  The cozy pattern is available at Dakotah Knits.  The heart pattern is  modified from Repeat Crafter Me.  Because the heart pattern as written was too large for my cozy, I chained 9 (instead of 11) to start and removed two single crochets from Rows 1 through 6 and  one single crochet from remaining rows.  I also removed rows 5 and 13.

Valentine’s Cozy Roundup – Day 4

I saw some ideas on Pinterest for cozies with popcorn stitch hearts.  The links to the patterns weren’t good, so I made up a pattern!

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Half double crochet (hdc)
  • Popcorn stitch (pop) – There are a couple of different ways to do this.  My favorite is as follows:
    • Yarn over and insert hook from front to back in to stitch, yarn over and draw yarn through stitch (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through two loops (2 loops on hook)
    • Yarn over and insert hook from front to back in to same stitch, yarn over and draw yarn through stitch (4 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through two loops (3 loops on hook)
    • Yarn over and insert hook from front to back in same stitch, yarn over and draw yarn through loops (5 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through two loops (4 loops on hook)
    • Yarn over and insert hook from front to back in same stitch, yarn over and draw yarn through loops (6 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through two loops (5 loops on hook)
    • Yarn over and insert hook from front to back in same stitch, yarn over and draw yarn through loops (7 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through two loops (6 loops on hook)
    • Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook

Cozy Pattern:

Chain 30 and sl st in first chain being careful not to twist.

R1:  Ch 2, 7 hdc, 1 pop, 14 hdc, 1 pop, 7 hdc, sl st to first hdc

R2:  Ch 1,  30 sc, sl st to first sc

R3:  Ch2, 5 hdc, 1 pop, 3 hdc, 1 pop, 10 hdc, 1 pop, 3 hdc, 1 pop, 5 hdc, sl st to first hdc

Valentine’s Cozy Roundup – Day 3

I love this cozy because instead of hearts, it has lips.  The lip pattern can be found here.

I decided to have some fun, so instead of using a plain cozy pattern, I made up one with a little extra texture.


Stitches Used:

Cozy Pattern:

Chain 30 and sl st in first chain being careful not to twist.

R1:  Ch 2, hdc in each chain around, sl st to first hdc (30 hdc)

R2:  Ch 2, hdc in third loop around, sl st to first hdc (30 hdc)

R3:  Repeat R2

R4:  Repeat R1

R5:  Repeat R2

R6:  Repeat R1

R7:  Repeat R2

R8:  Repeat R2

R9:  Repeat R1

Valentine’s Cozy Roundup – Day 2

Day 2’s cozy is a puff stitch cozy from the Roving Nomad.  I love how the v-shaped puff stitches resemble hearts!  The only edits I made were to use a H-hook and start with a chain of 30 instead of 24.

Valentine’s Cozy Roundup – Day 1

I had surgery this week and am supposed to be doing nothing at home, so I whipped up six coffee cozies for my kids to give their teachers for Valentine’s Day.  I plan to share one cozy a day until the big event!

Day 1 – The Love Cozy

I saw a pattern I liked on Pinterest for a coffee mug cozy with the word “love” embroidered on it.  I wanted this to by a coffee cup cozy, not a mug cozy, so I followed this simple pattern by Dakotah Knits.

After I finished the cozy, I chain stitched the word “love” on the cozy.  Easy and cute!

Appalachian Trail Koozie

We played Secret Santa at work this year. I drew a colleague who had recently taken off six months to hike the Appalachian Trail. (2200 miles!) For one of his gifts, I designed a koozie with the Appalachian Trail symbol.

Cowboys Mason Jar Koozie

I haven’t written a blog post in forever. A lot of that is that it takes a lot of effort to figure out a pattern I improvised from pictures after I already gave away the actual product. I’ve been lazy. I decided to play catch up just sharing what I’ve been making. If someone wants the pattern, I am more than willing to share!

First up: a Dallas Cowboys mason jar koozie. I actually did not love how this turned out. I was knitting at a friends’ child’s birthday party and their neighbor asked if I could make them a mason jar koozie with the Cowboys logo. I said sure. I figured out a pattern for the letters, but it was really wide. Knitting with number 2 needles and worsted weight yarn (which is ridiculously tight if you know knitting) the letters went more than halfway around the jar. The only way I was going to get the letters on the front was to use super fine yarn. That would have been a crazy number of stitches, and I would have to buy new yarn instead of using stash yarn. Considering I had already spent a lot of time ripping out my work to even get the letters mostly on the front half of the jar, I really didn’t want to go through any more effort. Next I tried several different crochet star patterns, none of which were pointy enough.  Lastly, the letters ended up too low. I’m a perfectionist. Here is how it turn out. Not my best work.

Bugs Bunny Carrot Koozie

As mentioned in my last post, I’m way behind on my blog. There are things I made in August that haven’t been added yet! I decided to start the posting with something quick and easy. A coworker asked if I could create a beer bottle koozie that looked like a carrot for his Bugs Bunny costume. Challenge accepted! I improvised the carrot using alternating groups of rows of knits and purls to give the carrot texture. I also created a large cartoony leaf that snapped to the bottom to give the effect of Bugs’ carrot. It turned out great!

Superman Koozie

I created a Superman inspired koozie pattern.  The main design is achieved through fair isle stranding.  The crisp, raised border is cabled.  Enjoy!  You can also buy the koozie here.

  • 5 Size US 4 double pointed needles
  • Vanna’s Choice Yarn in Sapphire (B)
  • Vanna’s Choice Yarn in Scarlett (R)

10 stitches and 15 rows = 2″ Stockinette Stitch

Instructions:

Cast on 48 stitches with B.  Distribute stitches evenly on four of the double pointed needles.
